Pulmonology Care

Experienced Pulmonologists Treat a Range of Conditions

Pulmonology is a sub-specialty of internal medicine that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and disorders of the lungs, chest wall, upper airway, and thoracic cavity — also known as the respiratory system. These conditions can make it difficult to breathe or cause chest pain.

Community Memorial’s expert pulmonologists, certified respiratory therapists, and pulmonary function technologists diagnose, treat, and manage various conditions of the respiratory system. Our board-certified pulmonologists also oversee the care of patients in Critical Care.

Common conditions treated by pulmonologists include:

  • Acute cases of COVID-19
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Emphysema
  • Interstitial lung disease
  • Lung cancer
  • Pleurisy
  • Pulmonary hypertension
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Sleep apnea
  • Tuberculosis

When to See a Pulmonologist

If you have a chronic cough, shortness of breath, dizziness, sleep apnea symptoms (exhaustion or extreme snoring), wheezing, or pain and/or tightness in your chest, it’s time to talk to your primary care doctor. They will evaluate your symptoms and may refer you to a pulmonologist for further evaluation.

If you have already been diagnosed with a respiratory condition, regular appointments with your pulmonologist may be recommended to manage your symptoms.
