Life Before Medical School: Growing up, I spent my summers as an ocean lifeguard and worked construction alongside my family, instilling in me an early appreciation for hard work and working with my hands. I went on to study Biomedical Engineering at Rutgers, before working as an Emergency Room technician. I feel incredibly fortunate to have found a specialty that so naturally brings together my skills, experiences, and passions into one field.
Why Community Memorial? I applied for a rotation at Community Memorial Healthcare without knowing much about the program, but found my excitement mounting as I learned more about it and my start date approached. I decided to make the most of it and drove cross country — the rest, as they say, is history. What I initially thought would be a great escape from the gloomy East Coast winter turned out to be so much more. I knew I would enjoy the location, but very quickly realized the program itself was the real draw. The camaraderie amongst the residents, the high expectations and associated mentorship from the attendings, and genuine care for residents outside of work were all huge draws. The fact that many of the faculty are former residents speaks to their commitment to the program and passion for teaching.
