Barry Sanchez, MD

About

Dr. Barry Sanchez is a board-certified general and bariatric surgeon with more than two decades of clinical experience dedicated to the treatment of obesity and metabolic disease. He earned his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California, completed his general surgery residency at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, and pursued advanced fellowship training in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at Stanford Hospital.

Throughout his career, Dr. Sanchez has held multiple surgical leadership positions and has been at the forefront of advancing minimally invasive and robotic surgery. He established and directed a multidisciplinary robotic surgery program for nine years, bringing together surgeons across multiple specialties to expand the safe and effective use of robotic-assisted surgery. He is also an experienced da Vinci® robotic surgeon and certified surgical proctor.

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Dr. Sanchez has extensive expertise in gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, revisional bariatric surgery, and other advanced minimally invasive and robotic procedures.

His approach extends beyond the operation itself, emphasizing patient education, comprehensive metabolic care, and long-term follow-up. Dr. Sanchez is passionate about helping patients achieve durable weight loss, improve obesity-related medical conditions, and restore functional health, viewing bariatric surgery as a powerful component of the comprehensive treatment of obesity and chronic metabolic disease.
