Primary Care Pathway
The Primary Care Pathway prepares residents for a career in primary care
by optimizing their clinical experience to promote excellence in ambulatory
medicine. The pathway is open to all residents in the Internal Medicine
program. Residents interested in completing the Primary Care Pathway must
elect to do so by the end of intern year. Residents who successfully complete
this pathway will receive special recognition and a certificate at graduation.
Residents in the Primary Care Pathway will:
- Receive additional mentorship and coaching with a primary care physician.
- Complete a four-week long primary care elective, which takes the place
of one inpatient medicine rotation. During this rotation, residents will
have daily continuity clinic to reinforce patient continuity as well as
gain a sense of the daily experience of a career in primary care. Residents
will also spend time in subspecialty clinics, aligned with their clinical
interests. Complete supplementary education in billing and coding in the
outpatient setting.
- With the support of the Community Memorial Quality Department and/or our
GME Research team, develop and implement a longitudinal quality improvement
project focused on outpatient innovation.
