We deliver the highest level of care across the treatment continuum, from diagnosis, to treatment, and recovery. Our accomplished surgeons perform nearly 500 spine procedures each year. They always choose the most minimally invasive approach to surgery, and they remain engaged and involved in your care every step of the way. Not surprisingly, we consistently receive excellent patient ratings. In September 2022 we earned recognition as a Blue Distinction Center+® for Spine Surgery, part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program.
Advanced Techniques and Technology
Community Memorial is committed to staying on the leading edge of technology, and spine surgery is no exception. As early adopters of robotic surgical techniques, we were quick to acquire the ExcelsiusGPS™, the first surgical robot designed specifically for minimally invasive spine procedures. The robot enables surgeons to operate with exceptional accuracy. Patients experience less post-operative pain and recover more rapidly. We currently perform around a dozen spinal fusions a month, at least half of which are robotically assisted. Our surgeons operate in a specially equipped dedicated spine room.

We have a growing roster of accomplished, fellowship-trained spine surgeons with expertise in all related subspecialties, from stenosis to spinal deformities. Our surgeons lead several residency programs, training young doctors in advanced spinal procedures.
Knowledgeable Navigators
Spine surgery can be daunting for patients, and we do all we can to assist at every step of the process. We pair each patient with an expert navigator who provides guidance and support before, during, and after surgery. Our navigator’s role includes:
- Educating the patient about their procedure and answering questions
- Serving as a liaison with the broader care team and case manager
- Making referrals, as needed, to home health, caregiving services, medical equipment, and other resources
- Assessing the patient’s needs throughout the process
- Helping patients sort through insurance, Medicare, and Medi-Cal
- Calling patients after discharge from the hospital to see how they are doing, and scheduling follow up appointments
